Fall Favorites

1. Fur Vest

I like fur accents on jackets in the fall, but have never had an interest in anything more than that. Last year I realized that a fur vest is a great statement piece which can be worn many ways. Some statement pieces are just that, a statement that you can’t wear often. A fur vest can be worn as a light layer in the fall and additional layering piece in the winter to stay warm.

2. Plum Sweaters

Fall is the start of sweater season. The weather is not cool enough for thick sweaters and jeans, but wearing a sweater with a skirt or over a dress is a great way to start incorporating one. Autumn always brings darker tones and this season designers are showing different shades of plum, lilac, and burgundy.

3. Plaid

When I think of fall in New England I instantly think of plaid and flannel. It’s soft and comfortable, great for casual errands and done correctly can be perfect for date night. Nothing says fall like plaid paired with a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks!

4. Ankle Booties

It’s time to put the sandals in the back of the closet and start bringing out the boots. I am not ready for tall boots just yet, but ankle booties are the perfect transition. The weather might still be warm out, but ankle booties are a chic way to start dressing for the fall season.

5. Plum lip color

An easy way to start transitioning to the fall season is by switching up some of your make-up. Instead of wearing bright pinks start wearing plum and richer red lip shades.

6. Flare Jeans

One of the first items I buy for fall is a new pair of jeans. For the past several years it has been the new skinny jean of the season, but this year old trends are new again. The jean this season is different, the flare is back. The 70’s look is strong this season and one way to bring the trend into your wardrobe is with the flare jean. I am little on the shorter side so finding the right flare for me was key; LOFT has a great petite section where you can get nice quality denim for a reasonable price.

7. Leather

A final reason to love fall weather is that it allows you to start wearing leather items again. I enjoy bringing out my jacket, skirt, and pants (never all at once!) I started with one leather piece and loved it so much I just needed more. Leather is a look that will never go out of style, so it’s great to invest in because you will have it for years to come.
