I will be honest, previously I haven’t invested a lot of money in coats. I can hear people saying “Really, you live in New England and don’t invest in coats?” Yes… I have one great longer black coat that I use throughout the winter. I have a few other jackets that are good for fall, but I realized this year that it would be a good idea to purchase an additional piece to have options.

The first purchase was this cape coat. It will not be a winter coat, but it is a great layering piece right now and I could layer it over a jacket in a few months. If you like the poncho look this season and weren’t sure if you wanted to invest in the trend, this is a great alternative. I love ponchos, but they seem more like a scarf or sweater than a coat. I like that I can keep the cape open and layer it with other pieces, like my fur vest. I can also zip it up and wear it as a traditional coat instead of using it as a layering piece. I also wore it open with a blanket scarf just draped over it to create a different style of layering.

It might not have been the additional winter coat that I need, but it has been a great addition to my wardrobe; I am wearing it constantly! It is the perfect coat to pair with a blazer. I hate wearing blazers to work because I feel so bulky when I have to wear a coat over top of them, but the cape solves that problem because it isn’t restrictive! 🙂

I have my eye on some other winter jackets like the ones listed here. LOFT, LOFT, J.crew, J.crew, J.crew, and Bannana Republic. I can’t make up my mind, but these stores are all having great pre-holiday sales this weekend so it’s the perfect time to do some shopping! Are there any coats that you’ve had your eye on this season?
